Dairy Products That Have Been Bad For 20 Years

I’ve posted up auctions of Evan Dorkin material in the past, and will continue to do so until there’s nothing left but animation cells from his time working for Yo Gabba Gabba. Dorkin has had a long and varied career, but Milk & Cheese is arguably his most iconic creation. Dairy products that stab people, hit people with hammers, poke people’s eyes out of their heads, and drink gin like it’s Powerade. What could be more fun than that? What could be more formative for me at 11-years-old than food that murders? I loved and continue to love Milk & Cheese for the simple, one-dimensional characters they’ve always been. When they stab, it’s like I’m stabbing with them. This auction is still at a reasonable price for original art. Grab it up for the holidays.

Maybe Age Mellowed Him

If you had access to a real comic book store in the 90’s -and had a truly puerile sense of humor- Milk & Cheese was it, man. Those two “dairy products gone bad” would whoop the crap out of people for no good reason. And it was hilarious. If you took all the light, singular giggles Fred Hembeck may have coaxed out of you and piled them on top of each other, it didn’t add up to one page of laughs from M&C.

Something I don’t think the “we need comics for all ages” industry pundits are taking into account: kids love reading shit above their age level. It’s how we make adults. If kids read stuff intended for kids, they would remain kids forever. In reality, kids just want to see boobs, blood, and in this case, two dairy items hit people with hammers.

Now, I knew Evan Dorkin, creator of Milk & Cheese kept busy. And I also knew he did stuff a lot less severe than curdled psychopaths with knives. What I didn’t know is he’s got a career in television as well as comics. I’ve never seen Yo Gabba Gabba!, but recognize it has something to do with a red gherkin and some dudes dressed like pervert ninjas. It’s for kids, apparently. I’m not gonna judge Dorkin for running on that TV money, but by the look of these two blissed-out co-op shopping tweekers: it’s time for him to revisit Milk & Cheese.
