Jerry Robinson passed today. You’ll be hearing a lot about his struggle for creator rights and many people will testify about his ability as an illustrator. I’ll let them do the heavy-lifting and I’ll leave it at this. Thanks, Mr. Robinson.

Here’s just a smattering of the superhero-related utensils available on Ebay. Who knew people wanted to connect with their favorite characters while they ate? Because I suspect helps motivate a sale, I should mention that Catwoman has her whip in the spoon image. Get weird, 50-year-old men.

As odd as the collectors’ spoons are, I think the toddler utensils are even stranger. It says “Batman” on it. Can toddlers read? Serious question because I try not to know any toddlers so I have no idea. Wouldn’t an image of Batman himself be more effective?

Ethan Van Sciver is one of my current fave comic book artists right now. His Green Lantern stuff? Just awesome. But he also has a knack for the Bat, as these two pieces of original artwork will attest. You probably only have a shot at affording one of them though…

Bootleg Joker Tee?

Over at Tee Till Death, we see a lot of bootlegs. Goes with the territory. But I have to be honest, while I have seen plenty of bootleg superhero toys and comics, I have never seen an actual bootleg superhero tee shirt. I believe that has now changed…

I see no DC trademark anywhere on here, and I have never seen a legit piece of DCU memorabilia with out one yet. Plus the artwork, much as I like it, is well… seems pretty amateur by DC standards. That said, this is one cool looking shirt, and if anyone has any info on it I’d love to know it.

I think that’s considered common knowledge. And I’m sure it’s common knowledge around here how much a fan I am of villain-centric comic book covers. So obviously these are right up my alley. Especially the second. Killer Croc never gets the respect he deserves, and that giant bat-logo looks sick.

Sometimes, when you get awesome Super Powers coloring books for Christmas?

And they have masks you can cut out of the back cover?

You kind of sort of immediately cut out the masks and run around wearing them, and just kind of let the rest of the coloring book fall apart.

Okay, let’s get real here. Heath Ledger did a good job in the most recent Batman movie as The Joker. Stole the show in a solid movie, but I walked away from the theater saying, “well, duh.” Christian Bale’s laughable latex voice was enough to ensure Ledger was the golden hit from that movie, but let’s not discredit a good job.

But he was NO Jack Nicholson. And even Jacko doesn’t do the comics version credit.

So stepping back, if your experience was anything like mine in the early to mid 90′s, it seemed like there was at least one weirdo who ran with the freak / scumbag / weirdo kids who had the illest weird joker shirt. He probably didn’t read comics on the regular, let alone want to talk about it to people who did. But he did hang out at the pool hall, smoke cigs by age 12, and tried to kick it to girls in 14 hole doc martens. These Joker shirts were not an easy commodity to come by, and with that in mind, I want to shout out to all the weirdos who wore Joker shirts when it counted.

Here’s four joker shirts, rated from 1 (acceptable) to 4 (aces). Bid hard.

1. OKAY. points for it being ledger-free, but the giant oversize print makes me think too much 2010, not enough 1990.

2. GOOD. Retro, cool. Slicked back Joker hair… maybe if you’re 15 and wearing this, you have black hair slicked back too?

3. GREAT. Now we’re cooking. Big props for this one being on a screen stars tee, a true mark of good late 1980′s t-shirts.

4. AWESOME. The Killing Joke. Perfect. Rep and respect.
