Jim Starlin Knows Monsters

I like to provide proper auctions rather than Buy It Now listings, but this one includes a Make Offer option so we’ll say it’s all good.

It’s a Jim Starlin print that features a number of deformed monsters in a pig-pile. Starlin is obviously one of the greatest of all time, but the appreciation for his work seems to have diminished over the past few years. Mostly because people are morons. Take advantage of that decline and lowball this seller.

Speaking Of The Forgotten One…

Thanks to Bob’s post about the random Avengers line ups of the early 300’s, I’ve remembered a certain 4 issue mini series that blew my mind as a kid: Jim Starlin’s Gilgamesh II.

I feel like most people have forgotten all about this one, and there’s pretty much nothing about to be found online at all. But I haven’t forgotten it. Because when I was 12, a depressing futuristic satire about a Superman type last of his race that uses the Epic of Gilgamesh as it’s template pretty much fried my circuits (plus there’s a mid-series touch of Cthulu). Top 100 Summer Comics… #89

Yesterday I found myself at a local comic convention. It was pretty dang good for what it was.

Lots of long boxes. Great deals on graphic novels. And on a Sunday, people were pricing to move. Score.

But I found myself in a predicament. I had a comic I was buying for $4 but wanted to get it rounded off at the 5 spot. So I decided to unearth an absolute gem that is probably lurking in my mother’s attic. So who do I turn to, in my moment of need?

Jim Starlin, Ron Lim… please come to the rescue.

An absolute incredible work that I NEED to find some commentary by Jim Starlin on. The entire arc (40-43) seems to ooze satire and I’m looking for literary closure. Dynamo City, the tent city, “Their Life”… it’s just awesome. The entire Silver Surfer run by Starlin / Lim run on Silver Surfer (34-50 minus a couple…) is that moment where you go, “THIS. THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE MEANT TO BE DOING.” Thank you. Jim Starlin, please get at me ! ! We need to do an interview. And if you don’t want to, thanks for creating all the same.
