Ripped From the Headlines

Though it says right in the title that this is “real” I’m still not convinced. I mean, for starters, how is that guy with the pickaxe supposed to get the room to swing that thing in such a confined space? I’m not sure this is 100% real after all.

Crime comics are back. A long-dead genre is getting a little shine due to some top-notch writers getting their starts there. But before Marvel went through the crime comic solicitation page in Previews and hired every writer available, there was this crap. Way before noir became cool again, this stuff was mouldering in piles at used book stores and grandpaps’ basements.

What always strikes me about this material If superhero comics require a suspension of disbelief, crime comics require a lobotomy. This material is fantasy in its own right because the characters behave in such an unnatural way. Whatever blows your fedora off I guess.

I like that the one cop is brandishing two handguns. Hard.

Classic Captain America

Hey, did you catch the Captain America shield in Iron Man 2???

Wait, everyone did. They practically hurled it at you.

So for the one or two per 1000 who missed it, I think that Iron Man 2 will be in the theater for a minute, so go back and see it. For everyone else, feast your eyes on some Jack Kirby / Joe Simon era CAPTAIN AMERICA original art. Seller says he will have some other stuff worth your time…

and I’d say after checking this auction I would agree. Wow. 1941. Timely Comics. Was Stan Lee even an intern yet?
